Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) are two surgical options for vision correction that can reduce or eliminate the need to wear prescription glasses or contact lenses. Both procedures reshape the cornea with a laser.
Recently, other surgical alternatives have become available. Among these is a surgery for an Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) which involves placing a lens in the space behind the iris and in front of the patients natural lens. With this new option, many of those who were too nearsighted for LASIK or PRK are now possible candidates for refractive surgery.
If you are interested in refractive surgery, please let Dr. Williamson or Dr. Wong know. They each have many years of experience evaluating patients for refractive surgery and monitoring their outcomes. In 1994, both attended the United States Air Force Warfighter’s Refractive Surgery Course and were certified by the Air Force to care of the military’s refractive surgery population. Dr. Williamson and Dr. Wong have the expertise and equipment necessary to determine if you are a good refractive surgery candidate.
